Sunshine’s Macro Monday: Moth Orchid

Sunshine’s Macro Monday #43

Orchid

My newest plant is an easy-to-care-for Phalaenopsis or “moth orchid.” The directions indicate watering every 2 to 3 weeks. Indirect sunlight. I think I can handle that.

I am hoping this orchid…which does kind of look like a moth…or human kidneys or a face or one of those Rorschach tests…joins the small group of long term survivors amongst the elderly plants I have nurtured through the years. So far, so good.

  1. Hmm. I see the theatre masks: Tragedy and Comedy, one of which isn’t all there, clearly referencing
my uncle who drank too much and slipped on his way to a play he starred in … or is it my mother mourning her theatrical career, cut short by those twin punches, marriage and kids?

    But seriously, another knockout!

    1. Thank you! Theater masks…yes I can see those too. Apparently your imagination is close to mine. The more I looked, the more I saw. So many possible stories. πŸ™‚

  2. I’ve only had 1 orchid when I cared for the owner’s flower in a 1-month rental in Santa Barbara. I felt privileged, respectful and very moved by its unwavering, independent statement of beauty.

      1. Me too. “They” say we’re supposed to talk to our plants…I’m sometimes rather firm with mine πŸ™‚
