After a snowstorm, odd surfaces sometimes appear.
As I discovered in our backyard several years ago.

Nature’s surprises…
Often short lived.
Gone before you know it.

But not before I snapped this photo!

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Cold and Warm

The theme this week is: Cold and Warm

Snowstorms happen.
When you own a home…with a driveway…the snow gets in the way.
It is cold…and wet…and heavy.
And – right after it falls to the ground – beautiful.

However, removing the snow can be quite a challenge, especially when over a foot deep.
Which, of course, must be measured and documented.

Staying warm during the snow removal process requires:
Many layers of clothing
Jacket and ski pants
Plus gloves
Plus hat…and hood.

If you are lucky, the sun shines…
Spreading the illusion of warmth.

As was the case… one day-after-the-storm in 2015.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA — After a January blizzard

One of the things I don’t miss about our former home is the aftermath of a snow storm…as pretty as it was.

Shoveling. Snowblowing. More shoveling.
Off the roof. The deck. The driveway.

However, snow storms did provide many of nature’s best photo opportunities.

Which lasted just a short time.

The theme this week is “Slippery”

When I think slippery, I think “slip and fall” and…snowstorms.
When I was a kid, a snowstorm was exciting and often meant a day off from school. Making snow forts. Snowball fights. Snowmen.
Slipping and falling were part of the fun.

Not fun any more…

As a (former) homeowner, winter storms also meant:

First: Admiring the pretty snow.
Second: Taking photographs.
Third: Removing the snow from the front walk & driveway…with a shovel..or a snowblower…or both.
Fourth: Taking more photographs.

Below is a photo from February 2014 after a major snowfall.
I had just finished clearing the front walkway.

Still slippery though.
