Inspired by V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #62: Child/Childhood
…ponder what it means to be a child.
~~~
To be a child…Part One.
Eyes first opened onto a world to explore.
To wonder. To question. To know.
Narrowed eyes gazed back…
I took my cue…
Slammed that screen door
And ran out.
Bright sun. Low clouds. Green grass. Climbing trees.
Raindrops soaking. Snow falling. Wind blowing.
Kite in flight.
Bicycle racing. Balls bouncing. Swings swinging.
Hopscotch. Tag.
Duck Duck Goose.
Hide and Seek. Ready-or-not-here-I-come.
Roller skates. Jungle Gym. Kiddie pool.
Slide. Sandbox. Snow forts.
Leaf piles…crunch crunch…jump…
Shout!
Nourishment absent inside four walls.
Outside
My respite. My peace. My place.
Fueling many Part One days…
An endless horizon of hope.
Yes! I can remember being outdoors from first light till last, stopping only to eat. So healthy. I love that you still have your photographs.
Being outdoors was the best! Many of those photos were Polaroids, which fortunately I scanned many years ago. They had started to degrade. I still have many more left. Glad you like them 🙂
They are treasures. I lost all my photos in divorce – moved out without taking anything. His new wife threw them out I’ve heard.
Oh no. That’s devastating, so unnecessarily vindictive. 🙁
We pretty much lived outdoors as kids, until called in for meals and finally for bed!
This brings back fond memories.
Thank you! All that time outdoors with no supervision led to many adventures. It felt so “independent” too. 🙂
“Nourishment absent inside four walls.” This, and the “narrowed eyes” echoed in my heart. Wonderful post, though sad that we had to escape somewhere.
Sad but at least there was a place. I am still so grateful for that. Thank you.
I totally relate to adventures outside unsupervised. I lived in a neighbourhood mainly populated by boys and joined in on their play. Inside the four walls, I also had two brothers. I guess I was a tomboy. Wonderful memories. 🙂
