Lovely pop of red! It’s as if the butterfly just knew that zinnia was requiring a little bit of shade! It’s a great photo!

Zinnias are one of my absolute most favorite flowers. When I lived in Virginia I always planted them with marigolds in my vegetable beds. The bouquets I harvested were so quintessentially summer! Now that I live in New York I can sometimes — in the dead of summer — get them at the flower stand on the corner.

I can see why they are a favorite! Too bad you can’t find them more easily. I found these during a visit to Vermont last year. Zinnias are so cheering, especially in red.
