More chocolate chips Mom…

A common plea…when I assembled the topping for our annual Christmas Morning sour cream chocolate chip coffee cake.

The sugar & mini chocolate chip & cinnamon mixture is first sprinkled between layers of thick batter carefully spread into a tube pan. The remaining is saved for the top.

A recipe is a recipe. Everything measured in cups, tablespoons and teaspoons. A scientific blending of ingredients designed for baked deliciousness.

Would too many chocolate chips weigh down the inner depths of the cake? Causing it to bake unevenly? As the sole family member with a food science background, those were my (and only my) concerns.

I am happy to report that nobody ever complained about the results…one way or the other.

And I never had a satisfactory answer to the eternal non-scientific question:

Is it ever really possible to have too many chocolate chips?

I was stuck indoors on a recent rainy day.

One lonesome forgotten can of beer left in the refrigerator. Craft beer no less…probably past its expiration date. But…no matter. It still served as a welcome diversion as it qualified for the April squares challenge.

It had a pop top on its top.

So here goes.

Side note:
At least pop tops now remain attached to the cans. We don’t have to worry anymore about stepping on a pop top when we blow out a flip flop…

(Thank you Jimmy Buffett…)

Does anyone remember those Mop Tops?

The four young men who burst upon the music scene in the 1960s with Long Hair! (Scandalous!) Their nickname – the term for a “bowl” haircut – made this hairstyle a popular choice from then on. Much to the dismay of parents everywhere. Mine included.

I was a very excited 9 year old when The Beatles released Meet The Beatles. It was the first record I ever owned (and, yes, I still have it).

But I was even more excited to receive my very own “Beatle Doll.”

I still have that too, along with one of his bandmates – Ringo – tucked into a box labeled “Memorabilia” along with a stack of tattered black & white Beatles cards and a poster.

Yvonne, a family friend from Switzerland, gave me the Paul doll…as he was considered the cutest and therefore the most popular at the time. My new “Beetle” doll (as I spelled it) was the highlight of a diary entry and accompanied me to school the next day.

George, the often overlooked “quiet Beatle” was actually my favorite.

I am hoping that an apple a day keeps the coronavirus away.

Maybe yes, most likely no.

But why not give it a try?

After being thoroughly washed and scrubbed, these four apples posed for a photo…cooperating to form a perfect square.

Their tops all shiny…clean…and virus free.

Firelight Flames

Even though it is only mid-January, it was 65°F yesterday. I was able to pretend we had jumped past my least favorite weather months of January and February…

Apparently so could a local restaurant, which set up a few outside tables…and turned on the fire pits (as well as the air conditioning inside, which was a bit much).

Now we all could pretend.

A 1957 baby blue Cadillac is hibernating in the basement garage of my condo building. Safe from winter’s snow, ice and salt covered roads.

Its shiny rear bumper extends past the straight white lines marking off the designated parking spaces. Making its presence known.

Every time I walk by this blue behemoth, I feel like it is watching me.

City Streetlight

January marks a new squares challenge from BeckyB: JanuaryLights.

The challenge is to post square photographs of words ending in light.

My entry for today was taken the day after Christmas in Washington DC.

On a walk back from a neighborhood park, the sun started to set.

When the streetlights came on, I was ready.
