Through the looking glass

Becky B’s July Squares: Treesquare

Looks like stained glass…he said. Yeah, I guess it does. The color editing settings had a mind of their own yesterday…reminding me of the Ouija boards of years ago. My computer mouse just did its thing and when it was done, I thought…yes that’s it. The square tree I captured during a walk now looks a lot like my life these days. A study in hidden contrasts of dark and light…real and unreal. Bits of blue. Shots of red.

Trees: here there and everywhere

BeckyB’s TreeSquare July Challenge

I love this pond, tucked next to a path through “my” woods. It is one of my favorite places and I’ve learned to step carefully around a mass of prickly bushes to get the perfect view. Without falling in. A photographer’s delight.

Depending on the time of day, I never know what magic the light will be playing on the water’s surface. On this day in May it was…trees everywhere!

Open Wide!

BeckyB’s July Square Challenge has begun! Well, it started yesterday, so I am a day late…
The theme this month is Trees.

I enjoy photographing trees in all their sizes, shapes and seasons. During a recent walk around a nearby neighborhood I looked up and noticed a tree branch…reaching out. Or something. A cloud also caught my eye. I do tend to see things that aren’t intentional. One might call that an overactive imagination. Or I am easily entertained. No matter.

Do you see what I see?

The tree. The cloud.
Open wide!

Macro Monday: Busy Bee

Flowers and more flowers lined every street in the Washington, DC neighborhood where I spent 4 days last week – my first return visit in over a year. It was a lovely (in more ways than one) hug filled getaway complete with daily walks. My almost 5 year old grandson delighted in leading the way on his scooter…stopping frequently…Look Grandma Flowers! Always my trusty helper, he knew I was on the lookout…camera at the ready.

This particular bee was in a huge hurry flying from blossom to blossom, but I managed to capture this bright shot of its face in the plate so to speak. Wings shining in the sun.

Macro Monday: Opening Up

This could be considered Chapter 2 of Friday’s post. My congratulatory bunch of tulips is apparently enjoying its stay in my home. In fact, they are all distracting me in a very good way.

One by one, each tulip is opening up a bit and catching bright glimpses of sun from the window…despite the sun playing hide and seek behind the clouds as usual.

Gotcha!

Spring Snow

Cee’s Flower of the Day

~~~
I woke up this morning to gloom and doom weather. By the time I was enjoying my coffee, snow had begun to fall in big fat clumps. What the heck? The simple answer: It is April 16th in New Hampshire where…besides live free or die…the state motto could very well be…wait a minute and the weather will change…. And so it does. My first thought: The poor daffodils!
These tulips arrived at my door yesterday afternoon – hand delivered by a friend and neighbor who lives downstairs in my condo building. I could “see” a big smile behind her mask.
What are these for? I asked.
To wish you good luck tonight and thank you for all you are doing on the board!
You see, my small world is now a study in contrasts. Last night the NH Art Association hosted a virtual “opening” of a special juried exhibition and two of my photographs were among those chosen to hang in the show. She and her husband were among my friends and family who were “attending.” She was hoping I would win a prize (I didn’t, but never expected to…the honor of inclusion was more than enough). I was so touched by her thoughtfulness. It was just the bright spot I needed.
The other side of my life? Being on the board of directors of my condo association since December. It’s my new practically full time “job.” The experience has not been as entirely positive or rewarding as peering through the lens of my camera and writing blog posts. In fact, sometimes it feels like I am back in middle school – and I was never a fan of middle school. That’s probably all I should say on the subject, but those of you who have ever been on a condo board likely understand. So, if you notice I have been absent from oneletterup, now you know why. I would much rather be here, but it is what it is. However, I am taking flight (almost literally) from home next week for a long weekend to visit my kids for the first time since our covidcation last August.
I’ll bring my camera, but try to leave the craziness behind.
Macro Monday: Pair of Buds
A pair of buds…or perhaps really 2 pairs of buds…greeted me on a bright and breezy day last week. As I went out the back door of my building I noticed a bush…now sprouting buds everywhere on its spindly branches. I have no idea what name this bush goes by, but no matter. And for some reason I’m now reminded of that old Pac Man video game…however I digress.
I gratefully welcome yet another sign of Spring.
