It’s been one of those weeks. You know, one you’d like to forget…pretend it’s a dream.

However…today brought with it the promise of longer days with the beginning of daylight savings time where I live. I know the days aren’t really longer, but the hours of daylight will begin to stretch well past dinnertime. I’ll take more light however I can get it.

The sun kept teasing me this morning as I sat at my computer. It would shine through my window…and then disappear…shining…disappearing. It got me out of my chair. I stepped outside and was greeted by a cloud parade playing hide and seek. Or was it the sun playing hide and seek? I watched and waited and clicked.

In capturing the action – and probably staring into the sun too long – I began noticing the clouds making faces. Or something. Whatever was going on, I got it.

These days “up in the air” could very easily apply to life in general. For me and most everyone else on the planet.

However…since I usually tend to take things quite literally, I am choosing “up in the air” to mean just that. Air travel. That’s about as up in the air as I ever get anyway. I can’t imagine hot air ballooning. Or tight rope walking. Or zip lining….

Between December 2019 and February 2020 I traveled by airplane three times to Washington DC. My seat always in row 14 – near the wing. I don’t know why, it just feels safer to sit near the middle of the plane. I will not, however, book a seat in row 13. No reason to tempt fate.

Whenever I fly, I am fascinated by the view from the window. If the weather cooperates and I can hold the camera (in this case my phone) steady, I document what passes by. Trying not to think too deeply about the fact that I am encased in a metal tube traveling at a very high speed – held up by the…um, air. Thousands of feet above good old terra firma.

Whether it’s the sky meeting the ocean off the coast of Maine…or the sky meeting the ocean somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean during a cruise to Bermuda.

Inspiring one of those I’ll take a different kind of picture moments.

We all live under the same sky.

Sharing the planet…the air…the water.

Handing it down one generation to the next.

The sky’s the limit…we hope to tell our children.

At least I did.

Many parents can’t share that hope.

Their children look up…confused.

They don’t understand.

I told my children anything was possible.

Work hard. Persevere. Love. Share. Support.

Be grateful for the help that comes your way.

To make it possible.

We all live under the same sky.

We need to learn how to share it.

The sky’s the limit.

Clouds

I knew I was saving this photograph for a reason.

One day in June – that time in late Spring when you notice the landscape has totally changed from brown & white to color – I looked up. And paused from snapping photos of leaved out trees, budding flowers and soft no-longer-crunchy green grass. To catch this…

Waves of clouds.

Kind of like the ocean in the sky.

Clouds also brings to mind Joni Mitchell…and my favorite song from her album Clouds, which was released 50 years ago in 1969.

Both Sides, Now is that song…

I am not the morning person in the family. Never have been. Prying my eyes open before coffee for any useful purpose…not advisable. Focusing on anything that early in the day would not lead to my best work….

In search of a suitable photo for this challenge, I knew just where to look. My husband – definitely a morning person – even a cheerful morning person at that – had just what I was looking for. And graciously agreed to contribute the following photos, taken on his morning walks before work.
