August photo a day challenge: Pebbles, stones, rocks
During a visit to the Shelburne Museum in Vermont last year, I noticed an odd sign posted in the grass next to the walking path: Please Stay on the Grass.
It was then that I realized I was looking at an art installation. Who knew? I love smooth stones, which I usually only see at the beach. This was something entirely different.
I was intrigued.
The artists’ information was posted nearby:

Usually, that sign says keep off the grass! I can’t tell what the design is.

The design is the layout of the rocks on the grass. A freeform design I would imagine.

Who was the artist? I tried to read the sign but couldn’t get it large enough. 😦

3 artists are listed: Jonathan D. Ebinger, Rodrigo Nava and Dan Snow. Dan Snow is the one who is highlighted in the description and I think he was there to give a presentation.

Smooth stones are rich in meaning and inspiration–they’re even comforting to simply hold and roll in your hand, fingers.

Don’t tell me they’re now an endangered species too? Is it forbidden to take stones, as well as seashells?
