My most recent favorite reflection happened in January during a walk on the beach. The tide was lower than I’d ever seen before. The afternoon light caught the clouds above while the beach transformed into a mirror.

Magical.

I had driven to this beach with an overwhelming need to clear my head. Walking along the ocean…listening to the waves hit the shore…the blue sky meeting the water in a far off horizon.

It never fails me.

A few years ago I caught this moment during a walk close to sunset.

Last summer, reflections appeared on a pond at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont.

This past week has been quite difficult on a personal level…which drove me to the beach again yesterday. No reflections this time…but these photos brought it all back.

The peace. The calm. The comfort.

Gotta love the power of the images we capture – as they transport us back to a healing moment in time.

(I resisted inserting the Supremes rendition of Reflections, as it kept going through my mind while writing this post…it’s funny how songs just pop up at the most unexpected times)

I so agree OLU – we are fortunate to be a short walk to the beach from our home and it never fails to bring me peace or joy or serenity – whatever I may need at the time whether I know it or not. I hope whatever has been difficult for you is working itself out – thinking of you. And PS, that image near sunset is simply stunning.

    1. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. I no longer wonder why I am drawn to the ocean at certain times – just grateful it’s there. That sunset moment is one of my favorites. 🙂

  9. Your photos are always breathtaking. I’m very sorry you’ve had a difficult week too–everyone I’ve had contact with echoes the same sigh…seems like it’s just one thing on top of another, with hardly a break to breathe in between. Please know that you are deeply cared about by this stranger afar who often feels like a half-sister ❤

  11. These photos are absolutely stunning, OLU. I agree, the sky maybe cloudy today, but the calm and peace the water and sunset brought us will stay in our mind forever. I love sunset, it always bring me to a reflective moment! Hope that these images give you strength. 🙂

  12. Beautiful photos — and I agree. I think of the time before cameras on phones as a kind of dark ages. I have the pictures in my mind, but it’s almost impossible to share them. I love the sunset photo especially!

    1. Thank you Martha. Instant images are a definite technology positive. I actually made a large print of a similar sunset photo (I took many photos that day!). I had it framed and it hangs on the wall in my “room” (office) 🙂
