Sunshine’s Macro Monday: A Prickly Mystery

Inspired by Sunshine’s Macro Monday #30

~~~
While walking along a street in a Washington DC neighborhood last Friday, I passed by a line of trees with small prickly seed pods (?) hanging from the branches. I had never seen anything like it.
My 3 year old grandson thinks they are coconuts, but I have my doubts.
Does anyone know what this is?
  1. I didn’t have a clue, and wondered if the photo showed the true size they are…then I read the comments, and I’d never heard of arbutus or strawberry tree. Always more fascinating things to learn in the blog world–that and the people make it so addicting πŸ™‚ Blessings on your day! My ant man will be here today…what fun.
      1. I should post about the ant guy… Fortunately, one of my dear blog sisters (since 2011) said she has a product that’s great, works faster than what the ant guy estimated. So I may order some–I need to feel I have control over this issue, not rely on my manager to schedule an appt for a 10-min visit by ant guy… I am Woman I am Strong–I can do ants πŸ™‚
    1. Thank you – I think you’ve guessed it! I didn’t touch them so I don’t know if they were hard. But the description and photos on the link you provide look like an exact match – (I should have also included a photo of the entire tree to help figure this out, but since it was a “macro” challenge, I didn’t). I appreciate your research πŸ™‚
