Autumn arrives in early morning, but spring at the close of a winter day.

It’s November.

As I watch the brilliant reds and oranges of fall fade outside my window, a distinctive monochrome emerges.

Crunchy acorns under my feet during a chilly afternoon walk…signal we’re halfway through Autumn. A hint of what’s to come.

However…

There’s nothing quite like crackling river ice…to confirm the reality of winter.

As I try to wait patiently for the return of color next spring.

  8. Love the contrast between the first photos, and the last one! And especially love the acorns–there’s something special about them…reminiscent of a time when I didn’t know all the hurtful things (or at least couldn’t recall the earliest ones). Your work is wonderful, my friend! ❤

    1. Thank you! I am drawn to those acorns. Maybe it’s the connection to past adventures as a child. Or their simplicity with the “caps” – who knows? I did have fun collecting some with my 3 year old grandson recently (not when I was taking that photo though, no time for taking eyes off him 😊)

  12. Three great choices – love the acorns and remember as a child playing with their little hats. Crackling ice is a wonder every year – love the sound. Nice that you have chosen sounds nearly as much as images! And when the green returns – there will be bird song!
